About Mother's Day
Mother's Day honors mothers on the second Sunday in May. It grew out of a campaign by Anna Jarvis of Grafton, West Virginia, who wanted a day to honor her own mother and all mothers.
Congress passed a law designating the day on May 8, 1914, and President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed the first national Mother's Day the following day. It is a popular day for family meals, cards and flowers.
