About Easter
Easter Sunday celebrates the Christian belief in the resurrection of Jesus. It closes Holy Week, which includes Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, and is marked with church services, family meals and egg hunts.
Unlike most holidays, Easter can move by up to five weeks from one year to the next, because its date follows the moon as well as the calendar.
How the date is set
In Western churches Easter is the first Sunday after the first ecclesiastical full moon on or after March 21, which keeps it between March 22 and April 25. Eastern Orthodox churches calculate it with the Julian calendar, so their Easter often falls later.

It always falls on a Sunday and is not a federal holiday, so weekday schedules are not affected. The New York Stock Exchange does close on Good Friday, which in 2028 is Friday, April 14, 2028.
